Overview

The freelance editor is responsible for the editing activities of various publications. The right candidate will have the ability to guide the entire production process (whether print or digital), ensuring that production and distribution needs are met on schedule and within deadlines. Responsibilities include copy editing, proofreading, fact-verification and undertaking writing tasks as required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review all editorial/content pages created for all projects
  • Oversee daily publishing projects
  • Train new team members as required
  • Collaborate with other team members to determine content & topics for projects
  • Coordinate editorial publications & meetings
  • Plan and schedule assignments for writers and editors
  • Oversee proofreading procedures & edit copy when necessary
  • Edit for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and consistency of style
  • Evaluate the final copy for compliance with style and tone
  • Attend events on behalf of the company
  • Maintain exceptional organizational skills to handle multiple tasks
  • Responsible for fact verification or oversight of fact verification of content
  • Ability to collaborate with a team in pursuit of quality & continuous improvement
  • Reports to the VP, Operations, Custom Publishing

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a relevant role
  • Proficiency in English
  • Exceptional knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of online platforms such as WordPress
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Reliable and efficient
  • Ability to plan and coordinate people and operations
  • Attention to detail
  • BSc/BA in journalism or relevant field
